Looking for really common surname ROBINSON
« on: Friday 30 December 22 21:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
I am trying to trace Herbert Seymour Robinson, born in 1900 at Anerley, Surrey, England.  He was son of John Thomas Robinson and Florence, nee Cheese.  He is believed to have migrated to Canada in 1919 and then disappeared but possibly was travelling to Montreal.  Can anyone assist please.  Many thanks from Australia.

Has he been located on a passenger list or is it hearsay that he travelled in 1919. What was his occupation ?

There is Herbert S Robinson - 26 December 1919 - Herbert S Robinson - born 1900 - going to Montreal - a clerk ?

Hi Sandra
It is heresay, as the story is over a hundred years old, all that is conclusive was his date of birth (5 July 1900), he had served in the air force (English) in WWI, his father John Thomas Robinson was a bookbinder, the passenger list to Canada has been the closest fit, but access to Canadian records from Australia is somewhat restricted.
Thank you for looking for me.
Stuart

The matching outbound passenger record from the UK is for a H Seymour Robinson bound for St. John's, Newfoundland, aged 19, insurance broker. Last residence given as England.

Hi Ambly
Thanks for casting your eyes over it, the Census of 1921 looks promising, even Hubert Seymour Robinson can't be discounted even there appears a consistent 2 year disparity in ages.  But then again, are records always accurate?  So, I guess Quebec is now also an option, or am I chasing shadows.
I notice you are located in NZ....I have an NZ question, how easy is it to locate parentage of someone born there in 1934, subject is deceased but their name is also as common as Robinson.
I appreciate your time.
HNY,
Stuart

Found marriage notice in Montreal newspaper for Hubert Seymour and Doris Grose in article dated October 14, 1925 -- at home of bride's father, same day, Doris Louise Grose, daughter of C.B. Grose, to Mr. H. Seymour Robinson, formerly of Norwood, Kent, England. Mr. Arthur S. La Montagne acted as best man. Honeymoon in New York. Will reside at 251 Birch Avenue, St. Lambert.

Hello Eileen....I had almost discounted Hubert and Herbert being the same person.....but now the article you kindly located mentions Norwood.....the Robinsons see-sawed between Anerley, Penge and Norwood.  Just maybe it might be solved.  Thank you sooooooooo much for the find.  So very appreciated.
