Lawsons of Alnwick
« on: Saturday 31 December 22 00:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am a decendent of William Lawson of Alnwick born 1847 married to Agnes nee Hay. I have tried to search for information on Agnes but have been unsuccessful. I have quite a bit of information on the Lawsons but more is always welcome to fill in the gaps but it is Agnes nee Hay I am finding hard to research. She has parents listed on certificates as John Hay and Elinor nee Fish and has a sister called Eleanor who is 12 years her senior. she has a son John from a previous relationship. Can anyone help. This is driving me insane as I have spent hours looking with no success. Thank you

1891 census shows her birthplace as Wooler

Wooler came under the Glendale RD & freebmd has a birth for Agnes Hay in 1847 Glendale

GRO online shows her mothers maiden name as Fish

Parental marriage must be before 1837 if her sister was 12yrs older than her

Hi,

Based on the information you have given, I have found the following:

The Eleanor Hay you mention in your post is described as born c.1836 in Norham in the 1871 census with her sister Agnes.

In the 1841 census, there is an Eleanor Hay of around this age living in Norham with her father, John, and her mother, Eleanor:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQBH-MC6

The youngest child living with them in this census is George, who is 9 months old. There is this corresponding birth registration:

HAY, GEORGE       FISH (mother's maiden name)
GRO Reference: 1840  S Quarter in THE BERWICK UPON TWEED UNION  Volume 25  Page 22

So this seems to be the right family.

What certificates?.  Can you identify the certificates please.

Where and when did they marry?.  Can you pleas list all the information on the marriage certificate.

And Alnwick is in Northumberland?
