Leicester UK or Melbourne Australia. William Yates and Charlotte (nee Lakin)

This is copy of a photo of the couple who were married in Leicester in August 1875. Do the clothes fit that period? Roughly hat year were the photos taken and any idea where?  It looks as if these were individual photos pasted into a document, but there is no text to go with the pics and I don't have the original.

Any comments welcome.

Mid to late 1870's is about right.
It looks like a scan from an album so the only way of
knowing where they were taken would be to take them out.

The lady's dress could even take it into the early 1880s. See the right hand image:

When did they leave for Australia?

Although there was crossover of styles 1880's sleeves
were a close fit as your pic shows whilst 1870's styles were
quite loose as the OP's pic shows but yes it just creep into the 80's.

Crossover dates are tricky!

I've looked at one of my Shrimpton books  -  it gives 76-80 for one  and 75-84 for another with similar styles.

Does the mount give any clues? Although the photos could have been inserted at any time!

William arrived in Melbourne in October 1875 (aged 24) with his wife. The photograph was taken in Fitzroy, Melbourne.

I greatly appreciate the expertise you demonstrate here! Yes, the couple married just before coming to Australia. That these younger photos seem to be close to their marriage date (August 14 1875 ) may suggest they were taken prior to their marriage, in Leicester?

What a pity her ring finger is cropped from your image; it might have answered the questions. With her left hand over her right she may have been displaying a ring but that's surmising only. Any chance anyone you could contact would have an original?

Yes, WHAT a pity! 
There is only the vaguest chance I could gain more information. I will try though.
That the two oval shapes are different sizes suggests this was probably an amateurish inclusion of the photos in an informal album.
The indefinite but differing backgrounds might suggest a different photographer?
