South Notts Hussars?????
« on: Saturday 31 December 22 16:58 GMT (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters

I've been lucky enough to have been given quite a collection of old photos.

Am I right in thinking that this young man is from the South Notts Hussars?  I think that the cap badge looks like the acorn and leaves of that unit.

If I'm right this is George G Weaving, gazetted as a cadet, then lieutenant, and was awarded the military cross.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Hussar uniforms usually have lots of gold braid across the chest?

Yes, he appears to be wearing their cap badge and collar dogs.

KGarrad is referring to their dress uniform.

I agree with Jebber. Uniform is standard officers' Service Dress for WW1.
The South Notts cap badge and collar dogs are quite distinctive.

Dear KGarrad, Jebber and MaecW

Thank you so much for your responses - so helpful to have confirmation - and I'd never heard of "collar dogs" before!

I can now show my relatives this pic confident in what I'm showing them!

with best wishes

Hello KN, I have a great interest in the South Notts Yeomanry, and a personal interest in Lieut Weaving. Is this a postcard image you have of him ? What else did you have relating to the South Notts Hussars ? Thanks in advance.

Dear Shush

Sorry for my slow reply - I've only just noticed your comment.  I'm no expert on the South Notts Hussars, my interest is simply that George G Weaving was my great uncle and I was interested in what he did in the war.

I know lots about the rest of the Weaving family!

What's your interest?

with best wishes
