James Smart of Stringston
« on: Sunday 01 January 23 17:17 GMT (UK) »
James Smart (born 1845/6 in Stringston, Somerset. The last info for him I can definately trace is the Census info for 1861. He is a lodger and groom in Holford Somerset. I can find some possible references in the USA and it would be quite likely that he followed his brother Clement to America.
Thank you for any help/pointers.

This looks like his death in 1915. I can't see the original image, however the transcription has his parents as William and Sarah. Does this seem like your James SMART?

Sorry, possibly not as I guess this is your James SMART, son of Solomon and Ann (in 1851)

Maddy, a huge thank you and yes you have found my Solomon. The 1910 census shows he is English whilst the first gives his authenicity as Canadian and the next one American. I guess someone completed the form for him? In the 1910 census it gives his occupation as City something?
At sometime it would be good to track down his death, occupation and marriage and thanks to your help it should be possible. In 1865 his brother Clement emigrated to Montana, again in the north and having travelled all that way you would have thought they would live close. His brother became a rancher so there might have been more opportunities for him to go somewhere else.

Thank you again, Mark
