St Martin’s Adult School, Bradley, Staffordshire
« on: Monday 02 January 23 08:59 GMT (UK) »
My friend has an 1886 edition of “The Fireside” by Rev. Charles Bullock, presented in 1887 to his (speculated) great grandfather James Pearson, who was born in 1870.

The certificate inside states it was given to him by St Martin’s Adult School, Bradley:
W. W. Chettle (vicar)
D. Bills (superintendent)
H. Moody (treasurer)
E. J. Caldicott (secretary)

Any knowledge of this school / building most welcome, thank you.

Newspaper articles of the time mention St Martins Schools Bradley as whole - posssibly in this location  https://maps.nls.uk/view/115475917#zoom=6&lat=10268&lon=9523&layers=BT with another building to the north which I think is the actual school https://maps.nls.uk/view/115475526#zoom=6&lat=1043&lon=9416&layers=BT

The stone above the door of what appears to be a school building, now sign posted as the church.
(The church building seems to have been demolished and is now bungalows.)

Happy New Year to you well.   :)

I does look like the church sold their building and moved into the school building and the school was relocated to a site in Wallace Road on a much larger site.

16 April 1976 - Staffordshire Newsletter - Stafford, Staffordshire
The village vicar, the Reverend Anthony Sadler of the Church of St Nicholas, Castle Bromley has put in a bid (£2,000)for the eight bells at St Martin's Church, Bradley, Bilston, which is due to be demolished. His bid was successful

Further research gave the possible people:

W. W. Chettle (vicar) - William Walker Chettle 1828–1899

D. Bills (superintendent) - unable to locate at this time

H. Moody (treasurer) - Harry Moody 1839–1920

E. J. Caldicott (secretary) - Edward James Caldicott 1853–1934

Any help to find D. Bills most welcome, thank you!  ;)
