Found a marriage of Maurice Ellis and Jane from Wellington 1814 but Jane is also named as Ellis? Did he marry a cousin?

Impossible to say really - did he have a cousin Jane you can trace?

have you seen the record ?  was Jane a Widow - Maurice might have married his brothers wife - was a common occurence in those days ...happened in my tree TWICE -  a man married 2 Oakes sisters - and a woman married 2 Oakes brothers  ??  were they Bachelor and spinster or widow and widower ?   need more info first :)

There is a Bond/License dated  9th December 1814. Maurice is 28 and Jane is 21. It does include the usual phrase

 'not knowing or believing any lawful let or impediment by reason of any precontract, consanguinity, affinity, or any other lawful cause whatsoever, to hinder the said intended marriage....'

Ellis is a fairly common name in those parts.

Spot on Gadget - my nan was Martha Ellis - her family were from Astley just outside Shrewsbury - very common surname  :)

No baptism found for Jane in Wellington so far - some in the wider area but ??

Maurice Ellis died 11 April 1836

His Will

He was a grocer bequeath to esteemed wife Jane Ellis furniture, stock in trade, monies etc..... all to be for her sole use and benefit during term of her natural life provided she remains a widow...... it is my desire that she will provide for division of whatever property may be left at her decease amongst my three children Samuel, Ellen & Elisabeth

Executrix esteemed wife Jane Ellis
Executor dear son Samuel Ellis, of this last will and testament trusting that they will jointly and cordially co-operate to promote their own comfort and that of my daughters
