Bond states that she was 21* and he was 28 - see my Reply #4

As we said earlier,  Ellis was fairly in the area.

so born about 21 years before 1814 = 1793 ish

It looks as if you missed my earlier post:

There is a Bond/License dated  9th December 1814. Maurice is 28 and Jane is 21. It does include the usual phrase

'not knowing or believing any lawful let or impediment by reason of any precontract, consanguinity, affinity, or any other lawful cause whatsoever, to hinder the said intended marriage....'

Ellis is a fairly common name in those parts.

1841 Census possible?
St Julian, Shrewsbury
Jane Ellis 60 Dressmaker
Ellen Ellis   20 ditto
Elizabeth Ellis 15 ditto

ELLIS, JANE age 65
GRO Reference: 1846  M Quarter in SHREWSBURY  Volume 18  Page 128

I know that makes her born c 1781 but could the bond just mean over 21?

I wondered the same Trish had seen the 1841 census you mentioned late last night

There is a 1st Dec 1782 baptism Wellington for a Jane Ellis illegitimate daughter of Jane

There’s also this 1851 census and wondered if this might be Samuel & Elizabeth Ellis two of the children mentioned in Maurice’s will, although I haven’t been able to find their baptisms

New Street Wellington
Samuel Ellis son in law bn 1818 Salop and wife Ann children
Lawrence 3 (mmn Laurence on GRO indexes) & Eleanor 19m
They are with Ann’s parents  Richard & Mary Lawrence plus others
address New Street  also with them is an
Elizabeth Ellis bn 1823 Salop noted as visitor, milliner

Samuel 23 & Ann Ellis 22 are on 1841 census living New Street Wellington his occ grocer

I did wonder about Jane's age on the bond but it usually says '21 and over' or 'upwards of 21'. It didn't in this case.

The 1841 looks likely though.

Add - just looked again and there is a '21 years and upwards' so it is most likely to be her. The transcription has her s 21!

They both signed the marriage entry.

If it's any help, these are the witnesses - they could be church wardens, etc. but I don't see them on other entries on the page
