Mary Ann Williams
« on: Tuesday 03 January 23 14:36 GMT (UK) »
Hope someone can help, I am going round in circles. Williams research is a minefield.

I recently sent off for my grate aunts birth cert, her name was Mary Ann Williams born 5th July 1885 Blaenafon, the family were living at Upper Brickyard, Blaenafon at the time. The information on the birth cert shows it is here, here parents were Thomas Williams and Mary Jane (Richards) Williams.
The 1891 census shows that Mary Ann Williams is aged 5 years old and living with her grandparents  George and Mary Ann Williams at Red House, Blaenafon.
The 1901 census shows here to be still living at 1 Red House, Blaenafon with her aunt  Sophia (Williams) Phillips and Sophia's husband George Phillips.  Living at 2 Red House is her grandparents George and Mary Ann Williams.
After this i lose her, i can't find a death for her.
Best Ken

There is a possible marriage for Mary Ann to a Thomas Edward Nelmes on 10th November 1908. They were married at the Abergavenny Baptist Chapel; the witnesses were E. M. Morris and E. Sumner. Unfortunately, I can't find a transcript of the marriage to see the name of this Mary Ann's father and her address.

On the 1911 census, Mary Ann's place of birth is Blaenavon, but her birth year is estimated to be 1888. However, she could have shaved a few years off to be the same age as her husband.

It is very hard to know whether this is the right Mary without seeing the transcript, as Williams is such a common name.

Hello Queenie and Kay.

Looks like you've cracked it for me, thank you both very much for your help...Kay, can you tell me if his pension records mentions where they are are living in Glamorganshire?
I shall send off for a PDF of  their marriage cert just to make 100% sure but i am sure this is another enigma which is going to be put to bed. Very much appreciated.  THANK YOU

1921 census free index for Nelmes in Glamorgan. Full record would give details

James Winifred Nelmes born 1912 Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales living Llangeinor - reg district Bridgend, Glamorganshire

Mabel H Nelmes 1914 born New Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales living Llangeinor, Bridgend

Thomas Wilfred Nelmes
1909 born Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales. Living Llangeinor, Bridgend

James Winifred, William, Mary Anne and 5 others are on this record.

Mary Ann does not appear to have surname Nelmes unless mistranscribed, but looks to be in same household.

Wow! it gets more interesting by the moment Mabel H Nelemes living in New Tredegar. My grandfather Thomas Williams ( younger brother of Mary Ann (Williams) Nelmes) born Blaenafon 1890 married Beatrice Charlotte (Baylis), and moved to Phillipstown circa 1915, my father was born 2 Meadow Terrace, Phillipstown New Tredegar. 1923.
Best
