« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 17:32 GMT (UK) »
Seeking information on Thomas HERRITT/HERRETT b.abt.1753 in Ayrshire;md.Bridget BESTO b.abt.1750. Both died in Hancock,Illinois,United States (Thomas in 1843 and Bridget September 8,1845). They had at least eight children, most of which,if not all, remained in New Brunswick,Canada:

1.David (1788-);md.Mary HOEG
2.Sophia (abt.1791-abt.1851);md.Nathan HICKS
3.Thomas (1798-1884);md.(1)Hannah GUIOU;(2)Elizabeth SPRAGG

(suspect there may have been others born between Sophia and Thomas)

4.Stephen Millage (abt.1804-abt.1872);md.Mary FITCH (?)
5.Rev. James (January 22,1807-January 26,1885);md.Phoebe Ann BLAKENEY
6.Moses (d.1835)
7.William (d.1819)
8.Frances;md.Thomas BESTOW (maybe a relative?)

I'm not seeing anything interesting in Ayrshire but there are 2 Thomas Heriot's born in 1753...

HERIOT
THOMAS
GEORGE HERIOT/ISOBELL SMITH FR921 (FR921)
M
14/01/1753
DALKEITH

HERIOT
THOMAS
JAMES HERIOT/MARGARET HOGG FR163 (FR163)
M
27/12/1751
CRANSTON

Could be a coincidence...

What leads you to believe Thomas was from Ayrshire?

Stewart. Scott. Bruce. McPherson. McMurray. McKibbin . McKay. McCann. Mckrinkine. McClewnan. McCallum. Joss. Ross. Morrison. Chapman. Middlemiss. Robinson. Conlon. Duffy. Dalgarno. Crookshank. Gammack. Ramsay. Mutch. Crawford. Orr. Galbraith. Kerr. Fergusson. Campbell.

Most info I have come across, notably "Arrivals 99:First Families of New Brunswick" by the New Brunswick Genealogical Society, lists Thomas's place of birth as Ayrshire;of course I can't call this 100% factual. Still,it felt like a viable place to start with.

Could be a case of missing records ...

We should be able to find some clues in the names of that full list of children you have. One record might be missing but other siblings records could be available.

The only similar name I can find around the time in Ayrshire is this one:

HERRIOT
JONET
JAMES HERRIOT/KATHARINE ROBISON FR278 (FR278)
F
12/03/1746
AYR

Could be a clue that could lead to info on Thomas though... maybe.
