Hannah Curlis b. Thaxted abt. 1790

This lady appears (a widow) in the 1861 in the household of Charles and Martha Sippitt as mother-in -law. I can't find any further trace of her. Martha "Curlis" doesn't seem to exist either, so was this lady married twice? The only Martha I can find marrying a Charles Sippitt in the West Ham area is Martha Clark in 1856 in Poplar.
 Any leads? HH

Hi HH,
I think CP is spot on with Curtis, that being so and in case you need leads for Curtis.  I found in the Gt Easton PR fiche (at the ERO) Rachel Curtis of Gt Easton married John Ketley of Gt Waltham at Gt Easton 26 Nov 1749.  It may be a "totally useless piece of information"   but then again perhaps not, Gt Easton is after all not far from Thaxted.

I can confirm cep is spot on in the 61 census it looks like curlis,but in the index it lists her as curtis

Thanks for that info.. Now I just need to find the explanation for the different surnames of mother and children- 2nd marriage most likely.
Any likely husbands anywhere? She's not listed as Widow, so where was Mr. Curtis?
