Hi Moiramount,

Having had a look, I cannot see a Lancelot Brown with service number 12481.

I can however find a Lancelot Brown of the Kings Own Liverpool Regiment with the service number 12461.

Could you clarify his service number please, is it 12481 or 12461.

Thanks

Hi Moiramount,

Many thanks for clarifying that, to start with there are in fact two medal cards for him

The first one shows that he was awarded the 1915 Star, The British War Medal & Victory Medal. He served in France from May 1915, possibly the 10th & was demobbed at the end of the war.

The second one for him shows that he was awarded the Military Medal & Bar, He was gazetted (in the London Gazette) for the Military Medal on 18th July 1917, when a private in the 11th Battalion of the Kings Own Liverpool Regiment.

At the time that he was awarded the Bar he was an acting Corporal, He was gazetted for this but the date is unclear, it shows L G 62, the L G is London Gazette, the 62 might mean 6th Feb? No year shown, but perhaps 1918?

Going to see if I can see a service record for him & also see if I can find out more regarding his Military Medals.

Hope this helps so far.

Kind regards

David

Hi Moiramount,

Have found the first, MM in the London Gazette. In the Supplement to the London Gazette dated 18th July 1917, page 7276. He is at the top of the right hand column as:

12461 Pte L Brown, L'Pool R.

It is just a list of names of those awarded the Military Medal unfortunately rather than a citation.

I shall continue to look for the second entry.

Kind regards

David

Hi Moiramount,

From the war diary of the 11th (Service) Battalion, King's (Liverpool) Regiment (Pioneers):

"9th June 1917

All companies worked on new CT from ALBATROSS forward. WANCOURT area. No casualties. No 12390 Sgt F ANDERSON, 12872 Sgt F L NEWALL, 12876 T NUTTALL, 12461 Pte L BROWN, 21241 Pte T BANCROFT awarded Military Medal. 6 OR's reinforcements."

Haven't found the second London Gazette entry as yet.

Hope this helps though.

Kind regards

Just in case it's not clear to the OP, CT stands for Communication Trench, and OR's are other ranks, that is privates and non-commissioned officers.
