Hi
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1915-07-29/1915-07-31?basicsearch=osmaston%20by%20ashbourne&somesearch=osmaston%20by%20ashbourne&retrievecountrycounts=false

If you scroll down there is a piece in the papers about Lancelot, under "Interesting Letters From Osmaston under Ashbourne Soldiers."

If you register free you can get three pages free  II think so anyway).

Hi Moiramount,

The article in the "Derbyshire Advertiser & Journal" of 30th July 1915 as posted by cath151 above states:

"No 12461, Pte Lancelot Brown" who was one of three brothers serving in WW1. Lancelot is at this time in the 16th Battalion, King's Liverpool Regiment.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

Hi Moiramount,

The same article appears in the "Derbyshire Advertiser & Journal" of 31st July 1915 & the "Ashbourne Telegraph" of 30th July 1915.

As far as service numbers go, he appears to have had just the one, this being 12461. I have found no record or evidence suggesting a second number at all, at this time.

The two brothers by the way were:

Clifford, who was in the RFA (Royal Field Artillery).
Private B C Brown (shown as Bertram, earlier in the article), 1661, Royal Scots 15th Divisional Cycle Company

Both Lancelot & Bertram had sent letters home from the front to their parents Mr & Mrs M Brown.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

The only other item that I can find is a mention in a list of 'sick and wounded'.

The attached snippet image (courtesy of Find My Past) shows that he was in the 11th Battalion, King's (Liverpool) Regiment and that he was suffering from German Measles, unfortunately there is no date of his illness.
