Connaught street Athboy
« on: Wednesday 11 January 23 00:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks
In the 1950s/60s there was a barber on Connaught st.  Would anyone know who that man was by any chance.
Also In the 1970s there was a nightclub further up the street near the T junction.  Would anyone know what it was called.
On the main street there was a drapers shop called Fitzpatrick's but what was it called originally.
Thanks

Can't help with the shops that you're asking about, but here's Connaught Street on a 1887-1913 OSi map.

From OSi National Townland and Historical Map Viewer.

(click 'Accept' and 'OK'. Click 'X' in the black band (if applicable). Then select MapGenie 25 Inch [1887-1913] in Basemap Gallery).

From the newspapers.
Not sure if it's the correct one but there was a drapery shop called The Cut Price Drapery on Connaught St in 1961
maybe the same shop as the The Cut Price in 1975 Faulkner's drapery shop Connaught St. failed to sell at auction but was sold to an undisclosed buyer later. Faulkner's were moving to a different street.

Could the nightclub be Daffy's Club, Connaught St, I see ads with DJs named in 1971.
No joy with the barber.

Thanks for info.
The drapery ( maybe menswear) was opposite what is now The Darnley lodge.

Daffy's does have a bit of a ring to it ok..

The barber was opposite side of the street to Faulkner.
