Mary Evans 1835 - 1888
« on: Thursday 12 January 23 12:50 GMT (UK) »
   Happy New Year Everyone
I am trying to find out about the early life of my Great Grandmother - Mary Evans.
She was born in 1835-6 and her Father was Thomas Evans and a Farmer I don't know
      her Mothers name.
When she married my Great Grandfather ( Daniel Elias ) on the 15th November 1864 she was 29
and living in Rhymney. She lived all her married life in Rhymney. Mostly on a farm named Penbryn-
oer ( now a wind farm!)  She died 31st July 1888 in Tai Elias. Rhymney at the age of 52.
On the 1871 census she had her age as 35, and 1881 census had her as 45. Both of these
censuses had her as being born in Breconshire. She is buried , with her husband, in Soar-y-
      Graig churchyard.
If anyone can help me find out more abouther or point me in the right direction.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this and I wish you a happy and healthy New Year
Kind Regards - Take Care - Keith

Shame nothing more than Breconshire given for her birthplace, especially given her name. Does the marriage certificate say her father was deceased (not a guarantee if not included but handy for research purposes if he was).

Who were the witnesses to her marriage? Also, did she marry in a church?

Thank you all who have taken the time to look at my problem.
A special thanks goes to QueenoftheWest and Deirdre784 who wanted to know the following

The wedding took place at Bedwellty Registry Office - I assume it's because my Great Grandfather
had been married before and was a widower.
The two witnesses to the wedding were Maria ( I think - dodgy handwriting) Waters and David Evans
I've just noticed that his first wife, Gwenllillian , died only 4 months earlier leaving him with 4 young
children. Maybe the Farming community was a bit closer than now - or maybe more practical.
Thanks again nice people - Take Care - Keith

Any idea if the witness David was a brother? Might help finding them as children.

What about her father….. does it say deceased?

Not so many women die in childbirth, or soon after, to necessitate the husband’s speedy 2nd marriage if young children are left. I have a few of those, one only 6 weeks after his wife’s death.

Hello ciderdrinker,
Sorry for delay in thanking you for your help.
I've been side-tracked on the usual problems of life but I'm
             back on it now.
I don't know if anyone else can see this but Marys father was alive at the time of the
wedding and she was supposed to be living and Rhymney ( no Address given)
Thanks again - take care - Keith
