He was the black sheep of a decent family, his namesake was Mayor of Pontefract 1928-9

Hello again, I found that John Thomas Peter Wilson married Nellie Robinson in 1955, he was cremated at Loughborough on April 2 1993 and Nellie on October 27 1995, both sets of ashes were removed and there is no memorial. The Crem can't give details due to data protection, there's no children and no will so where could the ashes be? Did Coalville cemetery inter ashes at that time? I only know the CO OP dealt with Nellie's funeral, doubt if they will tell me anything. It would be easier if it were a hundred years earlier. Thank you

HI there- Although the Funeral Home may not confirm if they still hold ashes for a specific person (although I don't see why they shouldn't-if there is no next of kin the ashes don't belong to anybody as I understand it so no risk in divulging that information), I would ask what their standard procedure is if ashes are unclaimed say after 4 years. They may have a designated space to keep the urns or may choose to scatter them but should be able to confirm.
If (a big if) there is a particular place in Coalville where they scatter them I' d be happy to take a photo for you if you like. I dont live far away.

Thank you for the offer, I have ordered Nellie's death certificate to try to solve this, I think they had a shop in Coalville as he was previously a grocer in Castleford and his mother and brother had shops

No worries- The CO-Op funeral home is still there! Which shop did they have do you know? I still have a lot of connections in that area who may remember :)

I don't know, just guesswork, he wasn't the type of person to work for an employer he also had a small holding and posed as market gardener when he was really a thief. Thank you

Ah OK! probably had a shed on his small holding where he kept his stash...I have a few of these in my tree. One ancestor was sentenced to deportation to Australia but after serving 7 years in the London jail where deportees were sent, he received a pardon from Lord Melbourne and returned to his village. Shame really-I would have liked some Australian family to visit!
