Elias Cox 1693-1769 West Langton
« on: Saturday 14 January 23 16:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I have found the birth, marriage and death for Elias Cox 1693-1769 West Langton but there is no parent entered for him on familysearch.org, any further details on his Baptism/Christening greatly appreciated. He is my 5x great grandfather on my grand mother's side and to go back one more generation would be a bonus. Thanks and regards, Pete

There is a baptism for an Elias Cox of East Langton on 1st December 1693, but unfortunately no parents names are given. Very unlucky; I have not seen many parish registers that don't include, at the very least, the name of the child's father.

Thanks Queenie that's what I have, looking like a brick wall, I would imagine his father was Elias because the Christian name carried on for 2 more generations after.. Thanks again.

Thinking outside of the box:

Elias Cox married Ann Potterton on 4th January 1728 in Tur Langton, Langtons.

Their first child, Samuel, was baptised 7th December 1729 in Tur Langton.

Looking for Cox children baptised +/- 10 years of 1693 who resided in Langton, throws up a few possible siblings, most of whom also do not have a father entered.

However, there is this one:

Elizabeth Cox, the daughter of Sam Cox of East Langton, baptised 7th June 1697. A Samuel Cox of West Langton was buried the same day.

Men often named their first son after their father, so could Elias be the son of this Samuel Cox?

To support this theory, I cannot find any Cox children of East or West Langton baptised after Samuel Cox was buried.
