Morrison's Pamphlet 'Armstrongs of the Border'
« on: Monday 16 January 23 09:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
Does anyone have a copy of the pamphlet 'Armstrongs of the Border' by Leonard A. Morrison?
I have no details when this was published, but imagine it was pre-1900.
Cheers,
Bob

Hi
The author lived 1843-1902 so it is quite early.
I can see other books by him are still available but not finding that one.
This is not the book you want but may help

Many thanks. I have the 'Chronicles', which is where I first saw the pamphlet mentioned. If no joy here, I'll go through some of the societies etc.
Cheers,
Bob

Have you tried the British Library or the National Library of Scotland? Both are copyright libraries so are entitled to a copy of everything published in the UK.
www.bl.uk - easiest web address I know!

I couldn't find it in the National Library of Scotland's online catalogue. Haven't tried the BL or any of the other Libraries of Deposit.

The entitlement to receive a copy of every publication published in the UK starts with the Copyright Act of 1911, which obviously post-dates anything written by Leonard Allison Morrison, as he died in 1902.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

He has written about various families in America, so it may be the pamphlet was published across the pond.

Like others I tried the catalogues of the BL, NLS and also the Uni of New Hampshire and the Windham library. I didn't have any success locating the pamphlet but I found the following entry in the American Antiquarian Society's catalog that has some interesting notes.

https://catalog.mwa.org/vwebv/search?searchType=7&searchId=306&maxResultsPerPage=10&recCount=10&recPointer=0&resultPointer=0&headingId=604500

Possibly this might be your pamphlet? At least accessing the page numbers mentioned from Morrison's other work on Windham should be practical online.
