Thanks Kall,

Our clan association has a massive , confirmed database, plus have managed to disprove  the mythology that dogs old Victorian-era works. Although a lot of online info is solid, there are numerous entries that are erroneous.

Morrison's pamphlet may be accurate, or it may well be yet another case of groundless guesswork. I'd like to see the info for myself. Fortunately, Y-DNA is allowing various lineages to be verified.

Cheers,

Bob

Many thanks for the link.
I can find many refs to his other work, but not  the pamphlet. It's possible that the 'Chronicles' reference, supposedly contained in Morrison's piece, is incorrect. The 'Chronicles' is something of a Curate's Egg - not 100% reliable.

The Armstrong Clan Association, here in the UK, is interested in all Armstrongs. Those from Canonbie Parish are of particular interest, Kall. The ACA has a database of thousands of proven records, from Parish records, Pledge Lists and mentions in State Papers etc. The Association work closely with an Armstrong Y-DNA Project, and the combination allows verification of a number of claimed lineages, plus finds links between various branches. The old days of simply saying "Aunt Bessie said we descended from Border lairds" doesn't hold water in these more forensic days.

My interest in the Morrison pamphlet was to see if it contained any info we don't have, but my strong suspicion is that it won't. However, you never know!

PS I'll PM you.

Morrison wrote about the Armstrongs and others in his 'Rambles in Europe'. From a quick skim read the mention of the Armstrongs in any detail starts at page 152. I expect that it probably overlaps with his other writings, he does mention old inscriptions but not in great detail.

Excellent! Many thanks for this. It appears that both the 'Chronicles' and Morrison's works share the same info, so not now necessary to find the pamphlet I was interested in. I imagine J. L. Armstrong (Chronicles author) used some of Morrison's work for his book. I say that as JLA published considerably later than Morrison.
Thanks again,
Bob
