Trying to help a friend as she has a Woolwright as an occupation on a census. She knows that they are a craftsman but does anyone know what their typical tasks were please?

Could it be a mis-transcribed (and possibly misspelled) wheelwright?

Could it be a regional term?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Is this in Lancashire, by any chance?

Ignore that.  Searching the censuses with no other search term other than "woolwright",  there is approx. 250 returns.

Most were wheelwrights, and so far the rest are shop assistants (or similar term) for Woolwrights.

I thought Woolwright & Co, was only in Lancashire, but I see it is in other areas as well.

Out of the 250 I mentioned, most were hits just because the name was "Woolwright"
Pre - 1921, a bunch were wheelwrights spelled "weelwright",  and were transcribed wrongly, and the rest were employees of Wheelwright & Co.
The 1921 brought up quite a few returns, but hides occupations behind a paywall so I can't see them.

The only one I can see that definitely said woolwright was corrected by the census taker to wheelwright:

Any chance of posting a clip of the  census form?

It may be a (very) regional term, but it is not mentioned in my 1932 Webster's, which usually records ancient or obsolescent occupations.
