Fred Adams and Lizzie Richardson (Lincolnshire)
« on: Wednesday 18 January 23 09:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi- I am trying to trace a Fred Adams and a Lizzie Adams (formerly Richardson) who are named as parents on the birth certificate of Julia Ann Adams born on 7 August 1920 at Ings Lane, Cumberworth, Spilsby/Alford Country of Lincoln (Lindsay). I can't find any record of these two as a couple; no marriage certificate and nothing on the 1921 Census or prior. Fred is noted as a farm labourer. If anyone can help trace these individuals I should be very grateful!

There`s a birth for a Fred Adams at Spilsby in1888, a possible father.

There are also some female Richardsons at Spilsby at the same time.

Of course, it`s possible that neither of them were born at Spilsby.

Welcome to Rootschat

Where is Julia in 1921?

"Fred & Lizzie"  could be Frederick/Alfred or Eliza/Elizabeth (for example).

Welcome to Rootschat!

I'm not sure how much I am allowed to say, because there are certain rules on Rootschat about copyright violations, but I found a lady called Julia Adams, born 7th August 1920, living in Nottinghamshire on the 1939 register.

That led me to another lady called Dora Mary Adams, who was born in 1898 in Spilsby. Her birth registration is below:

ADAMS, DORA  MARY     BRACKENBURY
GRO Reference: 1898  S Quarter in SPILSBY  Volume 07A  Page 561

This seemed to be too much of a coincidence to not be a relative of Fred, which lead me to this birth registration:

ADAMS, FRED       BRACKENBURY
GRO Reference: 1888  J Quarter in SPILSBY  Volume 07A  Page 595

which is the same one BillyF mentioned.

Here they all are on the 1901 census:

If you have never used it before, FamilySearch is a free family history website, you just need to create an account to view the records.

However, having just looked Fred up, lots of websites state that he died fighting in WW1:

So now I am rather confused! Will have to have another look in the morning.

Thank you everyone! I am an experienced "tracer" and have gone through every Fred/frederick/alfred/wilfred adams and none match when you get into the detail. Julia was 1 year old at the 2021 census and I can find no record of mother/father or her on the 1921 census. The person I am helping has done a DNA test and there are a few matches on Ancestry and having researched their trees, there are no matches either which leads me to suspect these may have been bogus names but no idea why. It is a mystery and I'm hoping someone can help :) The Fred Adams who was most likely died in WW1 in 1917 so not the right one.
I have access to Ancestry/My Heritage/ FreeReg/FindMy Past/Family Search so have explored several avenues. I think it will be a case of pot luck solving this mystery but thanks for all your suggestions-keep them coming!

Have you considered that these names might not be correct ?

There`s a marriage Mar 1qtr 1912 at Doncaster for a Frederick W Adams and Elizabeth Richardson.

Just doing a bit of lateral thinking as I had this with one of mine on a death cert !!

I didn`t say Welcome before , I think you`ll enjoy it here !

HI there-thanks for this information. Are you able to tell me where you found the record as I can't find it on any search I have made?
Many thanks

Julia was 1 year old at the 2021 census and I can find no record of mother/father or her on the 1921 census.

Surely the 1939 register entry for Julia that I mentioned is correct? It gives the exact same birth date as on her birth certificate. She is living with a Dora M Adams, whose birth date fits with the one born in Spilsby in 1898. Surely this is not a coincidence?
