Where did ancestor go after 1871? Help required please.
« on: Wednesday 18 January 23 22:46 GMT (UK) »
Stephen Cobb was listed as a Farm Servant aged 17 ( born Wisbech circa 1855 ) on the 1871 census. He was employed by Elizabeth Donkin ( Farmer of 60acres ) and her daughter Annie Caroline Donkin living at what looks like Carr House in Weel.

Unfortunately I can find no trace of him after this time. I have previously checked the 1881 census and found Elizabeth and Annie Caroline Donkin listed living in Tickton but nobody else.

Just wondering if anyone has access to information or records that could help please.

Many thanks in anticipation Steve ;)

Do you have Stephen in any later censuses, or his marriage or other events?

A few possible reasons he can’t be found:
Died
Emigrated
Misspellings of first and/or surname
Living somewhere you don’t expect
Incorrectly enumerated eg under employer’s surname
Missing census records for particular area

There are probably others ….

Have you checked his siblings to see if he is with any of them in later census?

Must be me late tonight! I'm not getting Stephen Cobb 1871 census - using FindMyPast: matched with Elizabeth/Annie C Donkin
Please paste your 1871 census address find from browser.

Have you not found it odd that the whole family, older & younger siblings appear here - minus Stephen? Worth mention if you have a 'stray'.
