Devon death notices 1980s
« on: Thursday 19 January 23 05:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello
Does anyone have access to Devon death notices for the 1980s, I am trying to locate one or a date and place of death for Toby James (Southerden) Dive who passed in 1980 aged 18, possibly Plymouth.
Any pointers gratefully received.
Thank you all.
Stuart

The death register shows a birth date of 15 October 1962, and a death registration in April-June 1980 in Plymouth Registration District.

ADDED:

Death also registered in January-March quarter 1980 - page number J'80.  Page number for April-June registration is 0121S.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Both entries can be seen on FreeBMD.  The June quarter entry shows additional information:

Surname     Given Name     DoB     District     Volume     Page     Transcriber
Deaths Jun 1980
DIVE   TOBY JAMES S   15 OC 1962   PLYMOUTH      21   0121S   somersetrebel
The above transcription represents what is in the GRO index but it is referred to by the following entry
Deaths 1980 Mar: DIVE,TOBY JAMES S,15OC1962,PLYMOUTH,21,J'80
which implies that this is a late entry, that is an entry that has been registered in a quarter later than the event.

I've failed to find anything at British Newspaper Archive or newspapers.com trying various combinations of names.

'Southerden Dive' is the most productive term for relevant hits (i.e. articles relating to the family in Cornwall) but I found nothing for Toby James' death.

Maybe someone else will have more luck.
