Elizabeth Williams - born abt 1850-52 in Chepstow

Hi

I am currently researching a couple - Robert Sheppard (Shepherd etc) and Elizabeth Williams.  They got married in Tidenham in 1870 and had at least 13 children thereafter in Chepstow or Barry Island.

They put their fathers down as Charles Sheppard and William Williams on the marriage entry. 

I have established that Robert was actually the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Williams, born in Easterton in 1852, with his mother getting married to Charles Burden in Market Lavington in 1854. DNA matches to half siblings confirm this.

Elizabeth states she was born in Chepstow abt 1850-52, with the only potential clue being a fathers name of William on the marriage entry.

But I cannot find Elizabeth or her parents on the census’ before her marriage to Robert in 1870, nor can I be sure who I’m looking for! Can anybody please help?

On FreeBMD it is the only one I can find with father William.

Thanks for that.  Certainly one to consider.  I think William is described as a  labourer on the 1870 marriage entry, but as that’s nearly 20 years after Elizabeth’s birth a career change is very possible.

Now to try and also find some candidates on the census’.

Also to note the registration district of Chepstow also covered Tidenham Gloucestershire.  Would search both areas.

There is a family lodging with Agili/Caswell famly in 1861.
Can t find on family search.. I see she was Elizabeth Ann on marriage cert and a Mary Ann Williams was a witness.

Although it says they were unmarried there are possible entries for the children with mmn Jameso GRO.

Thanks again.  More to consider, which is great. 

She was Elizabeth Williams on her marriage certificate on 7/8/1870 at Tidenham, but there was a Mary Ann Williams as a witness - a sister perhaps.

I am not familiar with researching this part of the country - made more challenging with a surname like Williams so I appreciate the help and support here.
