William Henry Clarke
« on: Thursday 19 January 23 17:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
Ive posted a few times in past but have gotten a tad confused with info other kind Rootschatters have replied and messaged
Im trying to discover if the William Henry Clarke in Broadway is same Clarke family as mine ?
On 1911 i have a William Henry with his Parents John Clarke horse groom and his Mother Ellen King
Or is his Father Frederick Clarke and mother Sara Lane ??
William Henry Clarke went onto marry Ada Collins the Clarke Family of mine seem to flit between Chipping norton and Broadway Worcs over the years all horse grooms ag labourers and coal dealers etc
I have a feeling i may have traced wrong Family😩?
Is his Father John Clarke brother of my GG Grandfather James Clarke or James Son Frederick Clarke
Im so confused!!
Any help would be more then appreciated even if ots just to re explain what ive had replies to on earlier post
Kind regards
Dunc

William's marriage certificate can be viewed for free on FamilySearch:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-X4F5-BN

It gives his father as John Clarke, coachman.

This post states that a groom was very similar to a coachman, with the latter being higher ranked:

Coachmen were a step up from a groom and were generally paid more see

My query is was William Henrys Father John Clarke or Frederick Clarke rom Chipping Norton ?
John was Brother to James Clarke horse groom chipping norton wife Elizabeth Mason or was he the son of Frederick Clarke son of James Clarke from chipping norton?
Im having no luck finding William Henrys parents and Uncles etc what a nightmare 😩

I'm not sure I understand the confusion? Apologies if I am missing something, but William Henry stated that his father was John on his marriage certificate, so where does Frederick come in?

On the 1911 census, he gives his birthplace as Broadway, Worcestershire, and his estimated year of birth is 1886.

This matches the 1891 census, where William Henry is living with his father, John, and his mother, Ellen:

John was Brother to James Clarke horse groom chipping norton wife Elizabeth Mason or was he the son of Frederick Clarke son of James Clarke from chipping norton?

John married Ellen on 18th October 1879 in Moreton-In-Marsh, Gloucestershire. His father was William Clarke, labourer.

There is a matching baptism in Moreton-In-Marsh in 1848:
John Clarke, baptised 8th October 1848, son of William & Sarah Clark, father's occupation: labourer.

This looks like the right 1851 census:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG8S-WDC

And there is a sibling called James.
