I have found James & Hannah on the 1901 census and James Leonard is not with them, so I'm thinking that this is all adding up:

Looks like Lettice died in quarter 3, so not during childbirth as James was born in March.

But the rest adds up!!

Indeed. You could always order her death certificate if you would like to know her cause of death.

Oh yes, great idea.

Also where she might be buried

Hard to say, as I cannot find a burial record for her.

I searched for a burial in Warrington using this:
https://www.warrington.gov.uk/burialrecords
But couldn't find one.

I don't know whether she was buried elsewhere.

According to LancashireBMD -

1899 Lettice Bailey - sub district Newton-le-Willows, Registers at St Helens.

http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/matchref.php?county=lancashire&date=1899&type=death&reference=NLW%2F34%2F26&prefix=SH
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks both for your help, I have been working through the tree today and yet have another quandary.

James L Baileys (born 1899) parents were James Bailey and Lettice Lancaster (died 1899) On the marriage record (1891) it states James Baileys father as a James Boston.

The only census data I can find on a James Bailey starts in 1901 when he was 36. No trace before.

I did find a James Boston(was he born Bailey) that fits on the 1871 Census with a father of James Boston.

Is that likely or am I barking up the wrong tree again?

Thanks,

Matt

Birth date on the death record is 24th March 1899, but given he was adopted by the time he was 2 how accurate could that be?!

Accurate enough to be the same dob on 1939 war register with wife Maud and 2 redacted children, probably born 1921 & 1926
