COMPLETED Look up - Memorial Stone at Rothes Old Churchyard - WATSON
« on: Sunday 22 January 23 16:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi Chatters,

At Rothes Old Churchyard there is a memorial stone which mentions an Annie Watson 25 Apr 1834-31 May 1877 (she appears to have died in New Zealand).  The MS isn't really that clear and I wondered if anyone would be able to have a look on their next visit and let me know who else is mentioned?  It's really just idle curiosity, but I'd like to fill in the blanks on that side, as years ago, I had started.  I know her parents were James Watson and Janet Anderson and she had 8 siblings.

Here is the 'Find a Grave' link - http://www.rootschat.com/links/01s28/

Any help would be appreciated.

There are 9 people on this stone. Details are on the Moray Council web site. I am using a phobile and I have no idea how to get it to copy the URL for you, but just search for LIBINDX (NB with no 'e' in it), select 'people search', type Ro247 in the 'Headstone ref' box and then search.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

From the index, I can work out the following which may be of help to someone researching the same family.  However, I'm not sure who the memorial was initially for, but maybe William Watson who was 'Postmaster and Inspector of the Poor' 1825-1894.

1861 - Alexander Watson 1850 - 1861 (parents William and Isabella Forbes) d. Rothes
1866 - James Watson  1846-1866 (parents William and Isabella Forbes) d. Rothes
1877 - Annie Watson - 1834-1877 (parents James and Janet Anderson) d. New Zealand
1882 - Isabella Forbes (Watson) 1824-1882 (husband William Watson 1825-1894) d. Station Cottage, Rothes
1897 - Jessie Watson (m. John Dawson) 1857-1897 (parents William and Isabella Forbes) d. Buckie
1894 - William Watson 1825-1894 (parents James and Janet Anderson) d. Rothes
1906 - Eliza Watson - 1836-1906 (parents James and Janet Anderson) d. 56 New Street, Rothes
1920 - George Gray Watson 1861-1920 (parents William and Isabella Forbes) d. Greenock (Husband of my husband's GGM Helen Taylor Edgar 1871-1928)
