Army record
« on: Monday 23 January 23 16:18 GMT (UK) »
Wondering if someone could find any Army / Medal details of a Henry Charles APPLETON who was born at Sherfield on Loddon, Basingstoke 7th April 1895. He died in 1971 in Basingstoke.
It is believed that he was in the 13th Batt of the Hampshire Regt during WW1.

Be very grateful for any info.
Many thanks
Tom

MRI shows Henry C Appleton Hampshire Reg number 21449 - Private - received the British & Victory medals

His WW1 service record has not survived.  Over 60% of such records were burnt during the WW2 blitz

His entry in the Medal Rolls shows that he moved from the 11th Battalion to the 1st Battalion at some stage. (snippet image courtesy of Ancestry)

If he was born June Quarter 1895 to Henry Appleton & Mina Herridge in Basingstoke?
Brother Frank ?
Then if he married in the late 1920s then he wasn't likely Demobbed and therefore he stayed on in the Army
Then when he was finally Discharged
Then his Records would have gone to the Storeroom in Hayes which wasn't Blitzed and his Records are now in Glasgow awaiting transfer to Kew
Do you know if he was awarded a Disability and Discharged in January 1919  with a Silver Badge?
Some AncestryTrees are confused what Regt he was in and what his Serial number was so Downloaded as Proof Both !
