John Barrington, Horse Shoe Alley, Moorfields, Middlesex
« on: Tuesday 24 January 23 12:32 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find any information on John Barrington of Horse Shoe Alley, Moorfields, Middlesex who lived in late 17th early 18th centuries.

He was a younger brother of Ellison Barrington of Chelmsford, Essex (bap 1655) and a son of Thomas Barrington of Chelmsford and Mary Ellison.

I think he was the son born and bap Sudbury 1663. He apparently had at least 2 sons called Thomas and John.

Any help appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi
There is a baptism for him at Chelmsford St Mary s of Thomas Barrington 20 Feb 1663
It looks like his father Thomas was buried shortly after 9.8.1665 of Moulshan.

Hi Ciderdrinker
Many thanks for getting back to me. I've been trying to piece together this family bit by bit but getting confused. Can I ask if there are any other baptisms of Barrington's at Chelmsford St Mary's around this time 1654  - 1665, children of Thomas and Mary. Mary's will indicated a Dorothy, Mary, Elliston, Robert. I think the Dorothy marr a Thomas Humphreys and Mary an Isaac Brindley. But she doesn't mention a John (who is mentioned as a brother of Elliston and son of Thomas at Horse Sho Alley in Royal Descents online).

Hi
Not getting very far with John.
There are no more children baptised at Chelmsford.
Possible marriage All Hallows Staining London to a Mary Maidstone  5 Feb 1683

There is obviously a connection to St Austins in the family
Isaac Brindley married Mary Barrington of Steeple Bunsted Essex by licence at St Austin 28 Feb 1682.
Isaac age 30 bachelor and Mary 19 spinster.
So Mary born 1662/3

Also at the church
Giles Mills and Mary Barrington 1.6.1704 by licence .Faculty Office licenses, 1694-1824, He was a wire drawer. (I can't see the licence to get extra info on line).

Nearby
Thomas s of John and Mary Barrington 8.4.1685 at St Faiths under St Pauls
Ann 17.3.1688 at St Giles Cripplegate d of John and Mary weaver
John Barrington weaver of that parish is buried following consumption 31.7.1691 so maybe not the same couple.
John Barrington made Freeman of the City of London 1687.
John Berrington s of John clothworker apprenticed to John White draper 1714.
Thomas son of John clothworker made Freeman but no date

Ellistone Barrington is  bapt 14.2.1655 Dengie Essex. He  is a beneficiary of Thomas Thwaits of Chelmsford's Will 1729 .But it's under Wills at Essex so I can't see if it gives extra info on the family.

Trouble is there are a lot of John Barringtons and it's difficult to tell if they are yours.
I'm really sorry but I'm just not cracking it

Many, many thanks Trish and Ciderdrinker for all you're help so far. As you've said the major problem is trying to untangle all the John (and Thomas) Barrington's in this branch of the family. They were a large family and confusing to follow in the records. They are a junior branch of the Barrington's of Hatfield Broad Oak who settled in and around Chelmsford. . I'm actually visiting my sister in Essex at the moment and will visit Chelmsford tomorrow to see if there are any memorials in churches etc. Also need to try and get to Essex Archives.
