You are very welcome.  That site is wonderful but it is hit and miss regarding some searches (that I have tried in the past).

There is one brief paragraph about the death of a Sam Wakefield of Tontogany, 1899.  There may be other pieces about Wakefields; I haven’t checked.  Perhaps he is one of your Wakefields?

I have a couple of strange questions, if you don’t mind that I ask, please?

Were your Wakefields from Norfolk or Cambridgeshire?  Both counties were mentioned (in the newspaper article and Anc*try).

Do you know if Wakefield was a common name in either county around the time that your ancestors lived there (and prior)?

My mum’s maternal ancestor was Wakefield, but they were from County Galway, Ireland (and in North America by 1839).  Supposedly, our Wakefields lived in England prior to settling in Ireland; I’ve never found any proof of that.  Before my mum passed away, she had her DNA tested. There is one DNA match with someone who has a Wakefield ancestor born in King’s Lynn, Norfolk c1865, which isn’t terribly far from Upwell.  Of course, the DNA match may not be through their Wakefield ancestors.

I hope you don’t mind my curiosity.  Wakefield, as far as I can tell, is not a hugely common name in America; perhaps it wasn’t in England as well?
