I tried to make it a little clearer and changed the back drop to a different although still a of the WW1 era.

Agree WW1 era. He has 4 GC chevrons indicating at least 18 years service.
Difficult to id his badge but possibly RA.
If this is UK & is who you think it is he will be serving in 1911.
