Where is Weeke?
« on: Friday 27 January 23 10:17 GMT (UK) »
On 19 January 1762, John Burrows of Weeke married Anne Mannings of Weeke ... but where oh where is Weeke?

They MIGHT be my ancestors ... but my Burrows ancestors were in Coggeshall. The only places I have been able to identify called Weeke are in Hampshire and Devon ... but this marriage is showing up in the Essex records. So what's going on?

Any thoughts or comments from people who are more familiar with these parts than I would be much appreciated.

Can you post a snip of the document in which “Weeke” is written?

Oooooohhhh ... thank you emeltom ... that does indeed explain it.

Hmmmm ... Wix is rather a long way from  Coggeshall. Not out of the question, but it does seem rather unlikely. My ancestors had a pronounced tendency to stay were they were (but not baptise their children ... which is a right pain in the posterior once you're pre-BMD!)
