Lovely photo . Totally unknown members of armed forces .
« on: Saturday 28 January 23 08:32 GMT (UK) »
This lovely photo has come to me from a second cousin . We have no idea who the men are or what company they are in . If someone can identify that I might be able to go through my records and see where my family fits in. My father drove the ducks during WW2 and it could be him on the far right of photo but I don’t think so . Please excuse my ignorance in this regard. Thanks Fred .

Most likely Royal Horse Artillery or Royal Field Artillery. Some are in full uniform, some are in shirtsleeve order for work (cleaning stables etc). In artillery units, the Battery is the equivalent of a Company in the infantry.

Royal Artillery used horses to move smaller guns. The men riding the horses were known as Drivers.

Hi , thank you . Is there any chance anyone can make out the number above the words “ The pride of the battery . I will include the other edge of photo as well . I couldn’t include it as was too big to be accepted . I particularly like the man with the broom and lanternHe seems to have a certain swagger . Thanks everyone for your help . Fred .Ps. In fact so does the smaller chap in the centre . I think this looks like a fun group .
