John Morley 1874 - 1956

Hey all,
I was trying to find some information about my g g grandfather John Morley born approx 1874 and died 11/06/1956.
Ancestry shows his wife as “Sarah Ann” and his daughter Jessie Burrows (née Morley) was my great grandmother.
My grandfather told me John Morley had a chain of shops called “Morleys” across Manchester, but I can’t find any evidence of their existence.

Let’s work backwards from your grandmother

Jessie Morley married Eli Burrows in 1935 Oldham.  What year did Jessie die and did she die in Lancashire.  When was she born?

You say Ancestry shows his wife as Sarah Ann - was that from a census entry?  If so - which census?

Jessie Morley was born 08/02/1917 in oldham and died in October 1984 and had 3 children, Nelson, Jean and Wright.

Not sure if she had any siblings,

I found Sarah Ann on the 1901 and 1911 cenus

Jessie’s mothers maiden name was Highaway according to her birth registration.   Have you found her on the 1921 census with her parents to confirm their names & John’s occupation?

John Morley b 1874 died 1956 did not die in Lancashire - he died Warwickshire

No I have not been able to find them on the 1921 census, I’m a bit technologically challenged haha

I did find John Morley Importers pty ltd established in 1944, but they do not mention the founder (but I guess you can assume it was a John Morley). Wonder if this is the same person?

Sarah Ann Highway 20 spinster domestic servant  3 Hall St  d of John Highway dec engineer

By 1911 the couple are living 14 Hunters Lane Oldham
John is 37 mill limewasher from Burslem Staffordshire
Sarah Ann 35 born Dawley Salop
