Removal orders Melbourne 1819 William Calladine
« on: Monday 30 January 23 10:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone, I'm new to RootsChat and found my way here while research my ancestors, the Calladine family. I've found a removal order reference for William Calladine, his wife Ann and their daughter Millicent on a website called 'Yesterday's Journey' - R121 William CALLADINE, Ann wife, Millicent to Rempstone, Notts. 1819.

I'd like to find more information about William and Ann at the time and the removal order, is there anywhere I could find records?

Hi Tanya, and welcome to Rootschat.

These records are held at Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock.

https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/record-office/derbyshire-record-office.aspx

If you give them all the information you can about the record, they will no doubt be able to send you a copy.

As they are to be sent back to Rempstone, Nottinghamshire, have you tried looking for them there?

Added:
Is this the William Callandine that married Ann Nall 2 June 1816 in Melbourne?
There is a tree for them on familysearch.
I'm always very sceptical about trees on family history websites, but they may give you some clues which would need to be followed up by your own research.
William was supposedly born in 1778, (no exact date given, so I expect they have not been able to find the baptism), father Thomas, mother 'Millecent' Holt.
As there would seem to be a child 'Millicent' with Thomas and Ann in the removal order, this looks an interesting possibility. Do you know how old this child Millicent was?
According to the 1851 Census, Thomas was born in Rempston about 1777, and she was born in Melbourne about 1797.
As there is such an age gap here, I'm wondering if he may have been married before this.
The marriage in 1816 in Melbourne might tell you if if was by licence, or whether he was a widower.

I can't see a baptism for Thomas, but there is a baptism for a Robert Calladine 17 Feb 1778 at Rempstone, father Thomas, mother 'Millissent'.

Thanks for your reply, those details are correct from my research. I have found baptism records but I’m not sure they are correct as the wedding record for William and Ann states with permission from parents which seems to indicate they both may have been young at the time?
The Calladines are quite difficult to research and there are 3 William’s living in Nott at the time too.

Thanks for the tip about the record office, I’ll contact them to see if they have records for the removal.

The baptism record in Rempstone had William’s surname spelled as Calerdine. Baptism date of 23 Jan 1780

Thanks Trish and Jon. I didn't realise that removal orders were on family search, thanks Jon. I was hoping it showed an address, but confirmation of their location in Derbyshire is fantastic
