More than likely, the electoral register would have already been compiled & printed.

Thankyou , i just dont understand all these years listed as Ralph Ledger then bang his name is now ralph Graham Stead .... there isnt even a birth between 1860 and 1875 for a ralph stead or ledger in west yorkshire. - i cant wait to see who he puts as father on marriage.

my nana said she was looked after by evil aunt , i wonder if there is criminal side , due to name changes

I was wondering about this chap?

Ralph Graham
Q3    1872
Dewsbury, Vol 9b p   600
mmn Brooke

There's a baptism in Batley in November 1872 to George and Mary, but says he was born December 1871?

I can find George and Mary (May) in 1871 in Batley, but not after that, until George is imprisoned in 1884 for neglecting his family

All a bit confusing

I don;t think Ralph has a criminal background - more likely his names were a bit fluid when young depending on his mother's relationships

Thankyou Mabel,
Will have a look at this later. Sounds about right
That is possible if born dec 1871, registered 3rd Quarter 1872. Some just time to register with records office.
So maybe Mary was married before mr Ledger

If he was born dec 1871, the birth could be registered march qtr 1872 but not sept qtr. Registration of birth should be within 6 weeks or there would be a fine. The birth shows up in the quarter it was registered.

well this is now getting tangled even more...

after spending 3 hours looking at newspapers on FindMyPast for George Graham 10th May 1884 i dont think my George mentioned yesterday is the correct one. although ive trawled through the pages i cannot find the article, but it says on the search on Leeds times under heading Bradford , it mentions a wife Emma.

i also cannot find a marriage to George Graham to Mary/may Brook(e), i know they not force to be married like.

allthough i have found a father for George to be called Ralph so that fits....
