Hellen Campbell born 1839 Blairgowrie
« on: Thursday 02 February 23 00:51 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find Helen or Hellen Campbell born Blairgowrie 1839 daughter of Duncan Campbell and Elizabeth Campbell formerly Baxter.   She appeared on the 1841 and 1851 Blairgowrie Census then seems to have disappeared.
Can anyone help.
Kind regards

I note the census returns you mention and the marriage of Duncan & Elizabeth in 1822 but no baptism records for their three daughters, Catherine, Jane & Helen?

There are two possible census returns in 1861, no other Campbell present so maybe Helen is a servant or visiting?
CAMPBELL   HELEN   1861   22   TIBBERMORE   PERTH
CAMPBELL   HELEN   1861   22   AUCHTERARDER   PERTH

That one in Tibbermore in 1861 said she was born in Kilspindie and the Auchterarder one was born in Dundee.

Thank you both for your reply.
Helen is proving difficult to find.

She was in Liverpool in 1864 when she acted as witness to her Brother, John's wedding -- she signed as Hellen.
Kind regards

Off subject (my apologies) An episode of "Escape to the Country" showed Blairgowrie in all it's splendour.  Beautiful countryside.  Trout available?

It's always an idea to give surrounding details to help e.g. where was she living in 1841 & 1851?
Who was she living with, any siblings?
Do you have marriage records for any siblings, was she a witness?
Did any family members emigrate, could she have emigrated?
Was she named on any obituaries?
Have you tried searching for a MI on findagrave or similar?

I guess that John was born about 1822, he does not appear on the 1841/1851 census returns with the family, he must have moved away by then. I note three 1864 marriages for a John in Liverpool but he does not seem to be in Liverpool in 1871, do you think he and maybe Hellen emigrated?
I looks likely that Elizabeth was on her own in Blairgowrie in 1861 and that Duncan died the same year.
