from the two gravestones we now know that Henry, Elizabeth, John and Jane Ann all predeceased their father

The two children who survived him were Sarah Smith/Errington and Isabella Errington

I contacted a couple of tree owners on ancestry and one of then kindly sent me a copy of John's will.

The will mentions 'Sarah, my reputed daughter' whose married name was Kay and listed  her children
The records indicate that Sarah Smith married WIlliam Kay in Q2 1874, Newcastle and later census returns show William Kay was a colliery overman, born c 1853, Beamish. children's names match those in the will
1881   living at 2 South Tanfield Villa, Kyo and have 3 children
1891   living at The Hill, Kyo and have 8 children
1901   living at 4 Jackey's Pit, Stanley, 8 children (plus another, Margaret, born 1879  is listed with her Granda John at the Ox Inn)
1911  living at 11 Front St., East Stanley 5 of their children listed

Her husband WIlliam died 10 Apr 1913, aged 60
Sarah died 25 Jan 1944

Ticketyboo,

Wow!  That is amazing!

I have found a living member of the family but she knows very little about them.  Obviously I can't name her here but I will speak to her this afternoon and come back with anything she can tell me.

Pleased I could help, it was an interesting query to firkle in the records looking for clues.
Do tell the living relative that what I have found looks very likely (especially now I have seen the will) but as her interest will relate to family history she would need to check it all carefully.

The death announcement for Isabella Cuthbert in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle 26 Oct 1950, page 9 col 1
helps to confirm this is the correct person

CUTHBERT Gateshead 21 Telford Street (late Mayo House, West Stanley) Oct 23 age 80 years. Isabella, beloved widow late John and dear mother of Mary. Received Corpus Christi CHurch Friday 8 pm Requiem Mass 10 am Saturday. Burial at Saltwell Cemetery immediately afterwards R.I.P.

I noticed Isabella and her husband were buried in the RC section of Saltwell. Can't see any idication that her parents/siblings were RC so perhaps she converted to catholicism at marriage
This marriage at Our Bessed Lady Immaculate RC  in Washington fits with the civil registration entry and confirms her Dad was John

and their daughter Mary was baptised at the same church in 1899

Looks like they had another child who was born and died too soon

All the indications I have seen suggest that the family was CofE so it looks like she did convert to RC when she married - or perhaps even earlier because the family who adopted her at age 11 were Irish and may well have been RC.

I have emailed you and added in some extra information.

The family was C of E but she was not the only member to convert to the RC faith but that is all my living contact knows.
