Kinnerley Shropshire The Bevans
« on: Thursday 02 February 23 15:57 GMT (UK) »
Hello to you all
I'm trying to give some background to my family background for my narrative.
My family from 1658 lived in Kinnerley  and I assume they were farm labourers /cottagers.
I would really like to know something about the area around Kinnerley, I'm guessing the work was agricultural and somewhere in my memory I seem to remember one of the Bevans was a flax gatherer
Do any of you know the main crop in this area? Or, do any of you know of the whereabouts of some sort of map showing enclosures with the date. I don't want my narrative to be born, married, died etc etc.
I look forward to hearing from you
All the very best to you
Carolyn

Good Afternoon Caroline
Here is an ordinance survey map of Kinnerley in 1874
https://maps.nls.uk/view/101594002

The Genealogist website will have the Tithe Map with enclosures on line or you can visit Shropshire Archives and see it for free.
John Bevan seems to have 10 pieces of land on there
www.thegenealogist.co.uk/search/master/?master_event=Landowner+%26+Occupier&person_event=Tithe+Apportionments&fn=john&sn=bevan&kw=kinnerley&yr=&range=10&type=person&source=&search_type=person

Obviously you can google Wikipedia and images.
Shropshire Archives have a little parcel of records ,maps etc describing each parish if you are near enough to pop in. It includes the Hearth Tax and Protestation if it has survived .King or Parliament ?

Good to Hear to got the Info
It's addictive ,isn't it?

Here's a few more possible things to look at

A Householder list of people in Kinnerley 1681-1686 with householder name and numbers
You could compare it to the Hearth tax records  and see how many chimneys they had ,and therefore how big their house was and how rich they are.
Unfortunately it's at the National Library of Wales and I can't see a digital copy
BOOK
St. Asaph notitiae [manuscript], 1681-1687.
Church of England. Diocese of Saint Asaph
99394752602419

There is a book of the Hearth tax records but this is the closest I can get to it on line
https://books.google.co.uk/books?redir_esc=y&id=K8wpAQAAIAAJ&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=bevan

I had a quick look at the Newspaper index and the only thing I found was for a Mr Edward Bevan farmer of Kinnerley 1876 being fined for drunkeness. He was part of a group at the White Swan Kinnerley who all got caught and the Landlord was done as well.

Edward  Bevan was also a juror 1846 as was John in 1850.

Glad to see you got the tithe map stuff

All the best
