William Puffett c1810 Filkins
« on: Friday 03 February 23 15:55 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help find my 2x greatgrandfather`s parents and family? William Puffett was born c1810 Filkins. He moved and married in Gloucestershire in 1837. On the marriage there is no father`s name. The only family I think he might fit in with is Henry Puffett 1780 who married Sabina Cook. I can find no baptism for William in Broadwell. All the other children in that family have been baptised. I have tested my DNA and have numerous matches with Puffett families but no one has any
proof that Henry and Sabina are William`s parents. William`s first son was named Henry so maybe this is a clue to his father`s name? If anyone has any information I would be grateful to hear from them.

Hi,

In future, if you could please include details of who the person married and where they are on the various censuses, that would enable us to better help you and save time going over the same ground you have already explored.

I can see that William married Sarah Baker on 4th June 1837 in Newnham. For others, his name is spelt 'Poffett' on the marriage register. Unfortunately, both of the witnesses are Bakers.

I can see the family is in Wales in 1871:

Thank you Queenie for posting the date of the marriage, too early for fathers names to be included.  :)

Sorry for the confusion. I have information on William Puffett and his family from his marriage in 1837  in Newnham Glos till his death in Pentyrch Glamorgan in 1878 and burial in Whitchurch. I have him and family on censuses 1841-1871. All I`m looking for is any information about his parents. Thanks for any help.

As Queenie mentioned if you post the details that she mentioned it helps us when trying to help you.
Where you mentioned that the marriage was in 1837 and no fathers name was mentioned I thought that it was a marriage in late 1837 where fathers names are given and I wrongly assumed he was probably illegitimate.  :)

We have already thought that he might be illegitimate and maybe an older sister was his mother but the ages of his possible siblings made this impossible. I was hoping that maybe somebody in Filkins or the Puffett family might have heard of William and have some information. Thanks for your help.

There is a JOHN Puffett born c Broadwell, Oxfordshire, living in Fairford, Glous.

He married Jemima Wheeler 4 Apr 1840 and names his Father as JOHN a Labourer

There is also a JOHN Puffett 1818 Filkins, Oxfordshire who married 1840, Father DANIEL a Labourer

So a couple of other possible Fathers for William.
