Sheila Elizabeth Crisell 1922-1995
« on: Saturday 04 February 23 14:18 GMT (UK) »
Sheila was born to Annie Grace Crisell in Jun 1922 in Newcastle I believe. The registration of her birth shows she took her mother's maiden name (indicating that Annie was not married at the time). I have seen a digital copy of the birth cert. that does not show a father.
A year later Annie married a Robert Gibson, in Newcastle and under the adoption act of 1926 her name was later changed to Sheila Elizabeth Gibson, but the cert.gave Kelvedon, Essex as her birth place.
I know Annie's family was from Kelvedon but I think at the time of Sheila's birth her mother was working in Newcastle, but I can not find any proof (ie. 1921 census, when it is released).
Would love to sort this out by either finding the original Birth Cert. issued in Newcastle, or find a record of where Annie was living in 1921 when Sheila would have been conceived.

Upto and including the 1911 Census Annie is in Kelvedon. In 1921 (I can't access the actual entry, only the Index) she is in Walker, Tynemouth.

Thanks for your insight.

The birth record you found does give Newcastle as place of birth.  Wonder why the later cert. gave Kelvedon as the location.
I have been told that Annie was working for a priest in Wallsend in 1921 so I though if I could locate the exact address that might confirm that. Tynemouth Rd. is rather long so I am hoping to get a house number.  Will try to access  FindMyPast to get this sorted.

Thanks

Richard

I hope you manage to get the images from FindMyPast. We are only allowed to give information from the free search.
Tynemouth RD was registration district and not road, sorry to confuse you. I can tell you the employer was working in Kelvedon a few years earlier so maybe Annie knew him then.

Thanks to you both,

I have got the copy of the census now.  Confirms the Vicarage part of the story.  The minister was married and had his family there living with him and Annie was listed as a servant.  Just my suspicious nature to think the vicar was the father of Sheila. Doubt I will be able to prove it either way. That he worked in Kelvedon does increase the chance he might have been.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Richard
