Cherry Garden Lane Bitto
« on: Saturday 04 February 23 17:52 GMT (UK) »
I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I am looking for occupants of Barry Hill House which was described on my 5x great grandfather, John Wright, will, 1816, house formally known as Baggeridges as at the end of Cherry Garden Lane in Bitton. I can find occupants in 1939 but nothing before that. I know that the house was bought about 1793 from the Baggeridge family. I was told by a cousin that it was either Westover house or Barry Hill House which her grandmother visited in the 1840s. I am at a loss as which one though as I can find no record of ownership of them by A person with surname of Wright, Stone, or Lacey being some family relatives.
John Wrightwas Mary Barry who died before her husband. This leads to me believing that Baggeridges was renamed Barry Hill house after Mary's death.
Another property mentioned in John Wrights will was a property named Parry's at the top of Cherry Garden Lane. I think this is no longer standing as  cannot find on Google maps a property described.

John Bligh Stanley was at Barry Hill House on the 1851 Census.

The next entry on the Census sheet is "Cherry Garden Turnpike House"

Bristol Mercury, 20 July 1839
DEATHS
July 12, after a few days' illness, at her son-in-laws, Barry Hill, Bitton, Amelia, wife of Mr William Wasbrough.

John Bligh Stanley's wife's given name is Amelia - named after her mother? So, we have JBS at that address from at least 1839 to 1871 (haven't checked Barry Hill later than 1871)

Checking the 1841 Census John Stanley's address looks like "Font Hill" (transcribed as Fort Hill).

Thank you for all the information. Now going to check JBS. Maybe he is the missing link to being related to my ancestor.
