It is actually quite amazing the difference in the price of a WW2 military service record from the MOD which costs £30 at least until April 2023 and the WW2 record of a merchant seaman (CRS 10) held at TNA Kew which costs not £30 but £58.44. What a rip off this is.

Unfortunately it seems as though we all have to make our decisions as to whether we want these records or not.  Very sad that this "free from 1 April 2023" doesn't appear to apply to all military records, nor unfortunately does it appear to include Merchant Navy = British Merchant Mercantile.   :( >:(

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
