Finally as examples
My Mother in Law
Had on the 1939 Register a Date of Birth in 1920 in May entered by her Parents
She celebrated a Different date in May for 81 years for her Birthday till her Death in 2001
We Registered her Death with that known Birthday Date and put on her Headstone
Big Shock when I started Ancestry and sent for her Birth Certificate
I found she was Registered born on another May date No one ever used.
I have several Relatives their Birth Certificates on the 42nd day in August show they were Born in June
Weeks after the Priest Baptised them in early May
One Relative his Birth Certificate shows his Father was Deceased is possible.
But He died 8 years Before
So even Certificates do not show the Truth

Oh my goodness… I guess certificates for main relatives as I call them is probably a must have. I wonder why your Mother in Law changed her birthday, things like that fascinate me.

And as for your male relatives father  :o
Guess she didn’t want anyone to know who the real father was. I’ve found quite a few illegitimate children who my mum never knew about.

My Grandad is a prime example of changing your name to suit, we thought he was an Atkinson, hence my mum and uncle were brought up with that name and got married with that name. When he died my grandma came across a lot of hardship because his name on his birth certificate is Albert Jackson…. :o

Why do you mean changed her Birthday Date?
At what age would she have asked her Parents what her Birthday was ?
Your are assuming the Mother could remember when she was born of Eight Children
Which is why she reported it wrong on 1939 Register
With the Male Birth Father
She wasn't bothered about lying to the Registrar
It was the Priest she had Problem with Baptism of the Baby
Which why she gave the Surname of that Dead Husband as Name to the Registrar
Because the Priest Buried Him
Remarried her to a Mariner 3 years later
And Baptised their 2 Boys under her New Surname
And the Mariner had been away at Sea not attending Church on Sunday for 12 months

My father, one of twelve children, celebrated his birthday on 12th February until needing a passport he obtained a copy of his birth certificate only to discover he was born on 9th February.

On the 1939 Register my mother's year of birth is three years out.

We just have to accept that some records are wrong, people make mistakes, it only adds to the fun of family history!
