You mentioned Jennison, what about tracking  along that line  and checking other births with the same maiden name , might be worth a try, that marriage took place  1838

1853 Hull Packet newspaper

WITHERNWICK. On Sunday and Monday last, June 26th and 27th, the seventeenth anniversary of the Withernwick Wesleyan Methodist Sunday School was celebrated ...

How long the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel or Meetings existed before the School is unknown.

The Primitive Methodists Chapels in 1867 in the East Riding (E.R.) of Yorkshire, seem to be numbered on an old 1899 Map of the GRO Union areas?

If you want to check for surviving NC Baptism Registers from 1837 period onward (that were not sent to Registrar General), you may wish to enquire at:-

East Riding Archives at Beverley.

Hull History Centre who seem to hold the Hull University Special Collections.

Added
The Borthwick at York.

John Rylands Manchester has some NC information

Dr Williams Library, near Euston (some seems to be online on subs sites)

Some NC Chapels became Independent and later absorbed into the United Reformed Church.

* A possible for that Sarah Wood, Widow, at Selby, Yorkshire 1851 Census, born about 1798 Holderness, Yorkshire, with a Sarah Ann Ward Grandaughter, previously mentioned on this thread, might be Sarah Wells marrying Robert Wood of Whixley, at Aldborough in 1823.

But Aldbrough, Holderness area was spelt different.

* f m p Marriage search ... Sarah Marrying surname Wood, limited to a 5 mile radius search of Holderness and 10 years either side of 1830.

The Widow, born Holdernes (Selby, Yorks 1851 Census) could of married anywhere and the Granddaughter's Birth Certificate is not seen.

1846 Burials

Mary Ward, age 21, abode Withernwick, buried 25th Sep'r.

Old enough to be married and/or have a child, or single, but the Parish Register doesn't give status or other details.

Death had to be registered to enable burial and registered District of Skirlaugh.

Swaby STEPHENSON and William JACKSON were working for the same farm bailiff in 1861 at Routh, so he was probably William's friend and nothing to do with Sarah Ann.

By 1891, (year of birth c1846), she was living in North Street, Leven, her marital status given as 'married' but no sign of William, with her children, Peter, Frederick, Violet and Harry, who was aged just one year.

The 1901 finds her living alone in Hornsea Road, Leven - but still listed as 'married.'

I believe that she died in 1929 and his buried in St Mary, Beverley.
Apart from the fact that William appears to have deserted her, I cannot find her with her parents prior to her marriage, or a baptism

The following newspaper might explain why ...
Beverley and East Riding Recorder ... 17th February 1883

"Attempted Murder At Leven.
On Saturday evening an event happened at Leven which might have led to a charge of wilful murder. It seems that Hartley Jackson Robinson, a labourer, has for some years been acquainted with another labourer named William Hall Jackson, and both men, it is said, have been colleagues in poaching expeditions. Robinson, however, who is a single man, was not content with poaching in the ordinary sense of the word, but intruded also upon Jackson's domestic arrangements, and became more intimate with his wife than friendship warranted. This led to frequent quarrels, and a few months ago Robinson was fined at Leven Police court for assaulting Jackson. ...
... Jackson going home in advance of Robinson, who was accompanied by a fellow labourer named Shepherd. ...
These two had to pass Jackson's door, and when they had gone about 20 yards beyond it a gun was fired. Robinson cried out that he was shot ...
"

The prisoner was "charged with "attempting to murder, by shooting, Hartley Jackson Robinson. The Court was crowded with spectators. The following evidence was given:-"

1862 Marriage at Leven
William Hall Jackson, Marriage, said Sarah Ann Ward's Father was Richard Ward, a Labourer.

Census
The Census seen, all say that the Sarah Ann Jackson (nee Ward), was born Withernwick, Yorkshire.

1851 Census, Richard Ward, at Leven
Richard Ward, Head, Mar, 25, Farm Labourer, born Burstwick, Yorkshire.
Ann Ward, Wife, Married, 27, Labourer's Wife, born Leven.

1848 Remarriage at Leven and Banns
When Richard Ward married Ann Maxwell, Spinster, at Leven in 1848 it says Richard Ward was a WIDOWER, John Coates and the mark of Maria Maxwell were Present as witnesses. Thomas Ward, Labourer was claimed by Richard to be his father.

1846 Death of Mary Ward, District of Skirlaugh
Who was the informant and/or present at death?
Does it say she was Single or a Wife?
Was Richard Ward or a Ward relative mentioned?
Any reference to Cause of death, illness or perhaps even during childbirth?

The 1846 Church Burial Register says Mary Ward lived at Withernwick and aged 21.

Documentary Evidence
1. Sarah Ann Jackson (nee Ward) claimed to be born Withernwick.
2. Claimed in 1862 her Father was Richard Ward, Labourer.

It would be pretty chaotic working long hours to lose your wife and have a baby / infant child on your hands.

Thanks Mark for continuing help and enthusiasm!
I had the newspaper article reports on William Hall Jackson, which does explain his and his wife's separation!

And thanks once more for summarising all the evidence pointing to Sarah Ann's birth and the circumstances following it - well done! And thanks again

Sue
