Quote
Sarah Ann Ward - born c1844 in Withernwack, East Yorkshire.

Any idea what registration district that comes under?

Registration District = Skirlaugh 1837 to 1937 Withernwick

I have not checked for a Birth.

If no Birth Registered, this is nonconformist territory and some didn't Civil Register until it became Law (1870s).

One of my female ancestors married into a family born / married District of Skirlaugh.

No marriage online and GRO wrote another Register reference on the accompanying sheet (to the one on Free BMD and the GRO Index image and the one ordered) and two Certificates sent were in Primitive Methodist Chapels.

Thanks for that. Something to consider I guess, but strange how she doesn't appear on the 1851 census.
I think it's her in 1861, but where was the family 10 years previously

In the family I've just mentioned, one married the Mother (in church, C of E) after their child was born.
