Good evening,

I a having difficulty tracing the Irish side of my family tree.  I know the surname is like the Smith’s and Jones

All I have is Michael Tierney
DOB @1783
Burnmsale, co, Mayo, Ireland
DEATH Unknown

Any help appreciated

I believe that the information you describe came from his service record? Michael was in the 1st (Or The Royal) Regt Of Foot 1st Bn.

His discharge papers can be viewed on FindMyPast:

I can't quite decipher exactly what parish he is from (looks like Burransole - maybe Burrishoole?), but he is from the town of Castlebar in Mayo. He signed up in Hastings, Sussex in 1812, age 30, so he was born c.1782. He was discharged in 1825 "in consequence of general weakness and debility and cataract in the left eye."

If you descend from him, I suppose you have some information about his children?

Thank you so much.

Yes I do have a family link.

I was born in Liverpool and the Tierney and Ryan are the Irish family link to my mothers side of the family.

Interesting regarding cataract’s my mum has had both of hers “fixed” but in the past people weren’t so lucky.

I am looking forward to researching Michael’s military documents.
