Birth and parents for Richard HONOUR
« on: Tuesday 07 February 23 07:02 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for birth details and/or parents for Richard HONOUR, who married Sophia SPICER in 1835  at St Mary Newington Surrey, with both nominated as Of This Parish. Richard was a shoemaker. They had two boys, Richard Thomas b.1837 and William John b.1838. Sophia HONOUR died 1841 before the census. Richard and both boys are at the house of Sophia's mother Catherine SPICER (nee CHURCH) for 1841 census. I have Richard going to the Southwark Workhouse in May 1850 and then to the London Fever Hospital in June 1850 where he died. These references place his birth about 1814. Any help or guidance appreciated.

I can't see a Bapt in Newington for Richard but as I am a bit of a lateral thinker looked for other Honour Marriages same Church around the same time.

A THOMAS Honour married St Mary 07 Jun 1825. He was a Carpenter on his sons bapt 1828

He is living in Lambeth 1841/1851/1861
1841 as a Labourer, 1851 as a Bricklayers Labourer,  1861 as a Carpenter, born 1801 Lambeth

Worth keeping in mind as possible Brother for Richard :)

Thanks, definitely needs some more lateral thinking. I will check into whether Thomas had siblings and parents. I have been looking at this everyway i can think of, ie Richard's mother married a Mr HONOUR and he just assumed his step-fathers name, but i havent been able to tie down a set of records that match any narrative yet. And I have been picking away at this one for quite some time.
After the death of Sophia, William John finished up in the Orphan Working School, I have all the records for that.

Yes it is Sophia Susannah, and yes HONOUR is spelled and misread and transcribed many ways.

By the way, that workhouse Richard Honour was admitted to in 1850 was Newington workhouse, and not Christ Church, as catalogued by LMA.

Check out the deaths among the discharges, and you will find them registered in Newington, and they are in the Register of Deaths in Newington Workhouse, which is on ancestry.
For example, Richard Freeman on the previous page, died 26 May 1850, and buried at St. Peter Walworth.
