Wright and Hynsons from Maryland and Virginia
« on: Thursday 09 February 23 09:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I've been digging into my husbands Ancestry (born in Sydney Australia) and have some found some interesting things on his paternal line.  I am looking for assistance in confirming these relationships before going further (it gets really exciting if I can confirm the following).

Edward Wright Mr
1695–1735
BIRTH 1695 • Stroud, Gloucestershire, England
DEATH 20 MAY 1735 • Queen Anne's County, Maryland, United States of America
MARRIED • Hester Keen 27 Jul 1717 • Bisley, Gloucestershire, England

~ Edward's Parents ~

Solomon Edward Wright Sir (Justice)
1655–1716
BIRTH 1655 • Indentured Servant, Maryland, United States
DEATH 1716 • Queen Anne's, Maryland, United States

Anne Hynson
1662–1698
BIRTH 1662 • Kent Island, Queen Anne's, Maryland, United States
DEATH 1 JUL 1698 • Saint Marys, St Mary's, Maryland, USA

~ Anne's Parents ~

Colonel Thomas Hynson
1619–1667
BIRTH 1619 • England
DEATH JAN 1667 • Maryland, British Colonial America

Grace Letchworth IMM ENG
1620–1667
BIRTH 1620 • Suffolk, England
DEATH 1667 • Kent County, Maryland

Anne died within 3 years of Edward's birth, so in that period they must have made their way to Maryland.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Looking at this with fresh eyes I can see issues with Edward circa 1695.  States born and married in England but died in Maryland.  This makes no sense if his Mum Anne Hynson was born and died there, and if his Grandfather settled there from Cambridgeshire and died there . Any help figuring where I'm going wrong would be appreciated.  I just purchased a DNA kit with World Heritage for $1 for 3 months.  Hopefully access to previously unavailable documents will help.

A Biographical Dictionary of the Maryland Legislature 1635-1789 by Edward C. Papenfuse, et. al.
for Solomon Wright
https://msa.maryland.gov/megafile/msa/speccol/sc2900/sc2908/000001/000426/html/am426--923.html

It says his son Edward married Sarah, last name unknown. Edward died 1734. No suggestion that Solomon ever returned to England, so the information you posted must have two Edwards mixed up.

-----------
nothing for your Edward at that site. Solomon's bio says Edward was a justice, then a sheriff of Queen Anne's County, but no mention of his being a member of the legislature.

----
for a cousin Edward:

----
Solomon's land today, still held by a Wright family.

----
same information for Solomon here:
https://msa.maryland.gov/megafile/msa/speccol/sc2900/sc2908/000001/000426/pdf/am426--924.pdf

It's a little easier to read, but harder to go from page to page. You have to change the last number in the URL. for instance, change 924 to 923 to go back a page.

Along the way, I thought I read that Solomon arrived with a brother Nathaniel, both as indentured servants, but I can't find the link now.

--------
will index for Queen Anne's County here, in case you don't have it.

Wrights in St Luke's Episcopal Cemetery, Queen Anne's Co

https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2295076/memorial-search?firstName=&lastName=Wright&includeMaidenName=true

The Edward Junior might be your Edward. In New England, "Junior" didn't necessarily mean that the man's father had the same first name. It often referred to the younger of two men in the area who shared the same first name. So your Edward's cousin, Edward son of Nathaniel, might have been older. I've seen the same use of "junior" in Ireland in the 1860s or so. I don't know if people in Maryland back then used the word the same way.

There is also a Sarah Wright on that list who might be the Sarah your Edward is said to have married.
And a Solomon Wright, son of the immigrant Solomon.

TYSM I'll go look through all that.  I went back to the bottom of the tree and added all siblings, double checked all info.  I'm back up to Edward so your reply is perfect timing.  Thank you again.
