What school? Whiteinch house, Dumbarton Road 1881 census
« on: Friday 10 February 23 13:54 GMT (UK) »
I have found a cousin on the 1881 (LDS) Census residing in what appears to be a school? There are 30 pupils all girls aged between 7-14 listed 1 machinist, 1 Teacher and The Head. Anyone know what kind of school this would have been? Any help would be appreciated many thanks in advance

Could you possibly give us some information on the person you are researching. A name and date of birth would do for starters.

Lots of knowledgeable folk on here who may be able to help further.

There was an orphanage at Whiteinch House, Dumbarton Road, Partick, 1885 - matron Mrs Clark. Saw mention of up to 74 girls. The description includes a schoolroom and the newspaper item also mentions "For their ordinary schooling they attend the Board school".

Whiteinch was not part of Glasgow in 1881.
I think it was part of Renfrewshire (or Govan).

Hanes teulu, thank you for your reply an Orphanage would make sense as she was an orphan however 2 other children one older age 15 and one younger aged 10 are with their grandmother in 1881 census….I wonder why Sarah went to orphanage?
